On the evening of April 24th, Autumn sprained her ankle while jumping on the trampoline. According to them, Ethan unexpectedly bounced her and she landed wrong. I could immediately hear that something major had happened; Autumn's shrieks & sobs & overall near-hysteria had me rushing out the back door. I don't know that I've ever seen a body part swell up so fast! Poor thing. I called my dear friend Karyn to check what I was thinking I should do against her suggestions. She came over to wrap it up. ...After HOURS of many tears, moans and whines--A and I both trying to sleep in some of those hours--I decided to take her to the ER. Because of her growth plates, they couldn't tell if there was a hairline fracture, but they guessed that it was just a very bad sprain. They wrapped it in a splint, gave her a prescription for some better pain relief and sent her off with a little green bear (which she was elated about). ...We finally got to sleep about 5am; I sing the praises of medicine!

Autumn became quite skilled at hobbling/mostly crawling around over the weeks. We couldn't find crutches her size anywhere in this valley. My poor, poor sweetheart...she was so brave & tough...she even had a bit more patience with being immobilized than I thought she would--at least at first. ;-)
UNFORTUNATELY, she re-sprained that ankle on September 21st..! Yes, she was on the tramp again. No, it wasn't as bad as before. We went to the doctor, and he said it should heal fine without a splint. I could hardly keep her down that time. Within a few days, she was limping around. Hopefully that same determination will continue to manifest itself in her life. :)
