S'mores

We went up the canyon last Sunday to see if we could get Peter's 'favorite' campsite; he had to put the tent in a different spot when he went up a couple of days earlier with the kids (I went to Bajio for dinner with Jeanine and then to Bunco at my cousin's). Lo and behold, it was available, so after Peter got a fire started, he and I went up to the other site to take down the tent and bring it to the other one. (Jeanine and kids had come over to share dinner with us, and they came with us up the "tan-yan"...) Peter had told me that part of the reason he wanted to move it was because there were a lot of mosquitoes, and sure enough, they were swarming the area. I probably spent more time swatting away the boogers (I think I had three on my arm for one brief millisecond) than I did actually helping Peter take down the tent! Anyway, we headed back and Peter got the tent back up with a little help from Josh & then me. The fire was about ready for roastin' marshmallows, so thus began the s'more fest. I don't like marshmallows--especially the jumbo ones--so I just ate a couple of the Keebler Fudge-Striped cookies that Jeanine had brought. I know, I know...some of you are probably drop-jawed in shock, but it's true. I think it has mostly to do with the texture; I have issues with certain textures of food. ANYWAY, since s'mores aren't my thing, I was able to take lots of pictures, and these are some of the best...

Ethan likes marshmallows (on our only family camping trip in AZ four years ago, he threw up 'cause he ate too many, including the marshmallows in his cereal that morning...he tapered off in general when it came to marshmallows after that experience) but doesn't like them roasted, so here he is with his version of a s'more. I like how it kinda looks like a smile... :)

This was the first time that Autumn got in on the action, and she had a ball! She was constantly getting another marshmallow from the bag to "roast" (I use the quotation marks because to her, roasting meant sticking it in the ashes near the side of the fire ring for just a couple of seconds, declaring, "it's done!" and then usually dropping it there or throwing it into the actual fire...and then starting the whole process all over again!!) until we finally 'cut her off'. :) As you can see here, she was intently focused.

Like father, like daughter... :) Maybe part of the reason Autumn's marshmallows were in the ashes was because she was using a skewer designed for the grill... Oh, thanks again for the shirt, Dave. Autumn still gets excited about wearing "Max's ssut"! :)

Don't remember what she exactly said, but I'd like to think she's saying, "TA-DA!" :)

Brandon said, "Mom, blog this!" (Have I trained him well, or what?!?) :) He likes to roast the marshmallows and dump them in the fire. So, he eats them plain like Ethan. And Autumn too, come to think of it. We didn't let her eat the ash-covered ones though.
