He's small for his age in height and weight. I think he'll grow to a decent height, but he'll always be skinny, like his dad. As a result, I was thinking receiver/db is his best option, even in flag football.
Well, we get to the practice and he starts warming up with me just tossing the ball back and forth and I was really surprised with how good he's gotten in the last few months. Lots of zip on the ball and decent spirals when he's paying attention to his grip. As practice starts the coach (with me helping a bit) starts running them through some very basic drills just to get an idea of the talent we've got. Again this was the first practice and lots of these kids have never played football formally before as this is the youngest age they allow.
During their defensive drill they each ran past a line of players trying to pull their flag. Brandon was the only one to ever make it through untouched. He made a nice little juke that faked out everyone and then ran the other way past them all.
Once the coach runs them through the drills, Brandon was chosen as 1st string QB. He was asked to memorize 3 plays and you could just see the excitement on his face as the responsibility was placed on his shoulders.
It appears that despite his lack of success at other sports, we may have a little football player at our house.
Tonight I'm a proud dad.
