for the first time, Ethan played basketball via the city. the way they do it through his grade (2nd) is different. they basically have five weeks of skills learning/practicing for about half an hour, then they have a "scrimmage game" for the last half. (oh, they don't usually 'referee' mistakes like travel, double-dribble, etc.) he got to play in their school gym. he was pleased to have some practice time on those same hoops for several days when the air quality was so crappy that they kept the kids inside for recess. he had a good time; i'm sure the more 'informal' structure appealed to his personality and desire to be social. i wonder if he'll want to play next year when it starts to be more serious! :)

Peter took these pictures on Ethan's last night, February 12th. he made a couple of baskets during his game play, and seemed accepting of the many more attempts. Do note: his choice of shirt (underneath the jersey), shorts and socks (that you can't see) are chosen quite on purpose! he is our "fashion-conscious" one (well, Autumn is starting to give him a run for his money, but that's a story for another time)...and when i say "fashion," it's VERY MUCH own style...!! :) if i send both of the boys down to get changed after school (hooray for uniforms!), or even just to get into their pajamas, i can guarantee you that Brandon will be back upstairs in under a minute to a minute and a half. on the other hand, Ethan will be AT LEAST two to five minutes...and that's if he doesn't get distracted by something else in his room first (like their state puzzle)! ......and speaking of states, when i told Ethan i was going to blog about him & basketball, he said, "OK... and you can also say that I know the capitals to all 50 states!" so, there you go. :)

and on that same subject, i should share that he is totally into maps, city/state/country names, populations, and distances. i told him he could be a cartographer when he grows up.
one more thing...i can't help but see a bit of his "Uncle Mikey" in these pics of E, especially considering he's playing basketball, which--in case you didn't know--Michael was (and still is) obsessed with the sport! :)

Cute pics! My boys have never been too excited about organized basketball...maybe cuz we grow 'em too short in these parts! They prefer soccer and baseball!
Looks like a natural hoopster. The boy got game!
