spelling B...get it?!? :)

next, it was time for the 3rd & 4th graders. Brandon was one of three boys and about five girls. at first, when i saw the flyer about the spelling bee and told him that i was signing him up, he moaned a little bit, "do i have to??" i reminded him that after letting him just watch last year, he had to participate this year. he accepted that, and only whined one quizzing session because he didn't want to wait to have cake. they used the same list of words with his group, and Brandon had many of the same words Ethan had. anyway, he did well......

he knew i had the camera ready to snap a pic, so he was very wary about looking over at me. :) can you see that he's trying not to smile??

i think this was his expression when he just completed spelling his final word correctly...

which means...LOOKEY HERE, AGAIN!!!! my 4th grader won FIRST PLACE!!! the principal was doing some work elsewhere in the building, so Mrs. Watkins awarded B his trophy.

i knew he could do well, that's why i wanted him to participate last year! :) perhaps his waiting 'til this year paid off...

as with Ethan, it came down to Brandon and a girl (3rd grader) that is also in his Reading Study class. they went back and forth even longer than Ethan had in his final round. then, the girl got the word "where" and she spelled it without the "h". so, it was B's turn to spell it correctly, which he did, so he was given the last word, "most". ...afterward, a few adults complimented the boys, saying things like, "the spelling brothers!" and "wow, BOTH of you won!" ......it goes without saying that i'm immensely proud of them...what super spellers i have!!! :)
