we finally made it to Andy's office, and barely made it to her floor's restroom... :) we hung out for a little while, then changed our clothes. after heading downstairs (or should i say down the elevator; her office is on the 17th??--don't remember exactly now--floor), i had a woman fly off the handle at me as she totally misunderstood what i was trying to say while i was trying to hide K near the locked bathroom door in the lobby (her tights were totally sliding down her legs). that was our first experience with a not-so-nice New Yorker, and i'm happy to say we only had one more encounter, and it wasn't as bad. not that this one was so bad. ...ANYWAY, we headed to the temple while Andy went to her fancy Christmas work party at a hotel.

it was so strange (in a good way) to one second be amongst the hustle & bustle of the city streets of New York, and then two seconds later, be in the quiet, peaceful temple. this picture was actually taken on our way out. it was so beautiful (in more ways than one) inside. i loved the pops of blue. ...if we took about 7 steps forward from where we were standing in this shot, just to our left was a security guard desk. (something NOT usually found right outside a temple's doors.) and if we took about 3 steps slightly forward and to our right, we'd be walking through the doors back onto the city sidewalk.
once we left the temple, we embarked on our night of pavement pounding. let me just say, that when all was said & done, we had inadvertently walked a very roundabout way from the temple to Times Square. almost 2 miles. i, in my dress and K, in her skirt. not in our walking shoes. and it was below 30 degrees. and we hadn't eaten anything since that pizza for lunch. and it feels like a long time since i mentioned eating lunch, right?? it felt about that long since we'd last eaten. j/k. sort of. :) we did stop along the way and get a pinkberry (because Ellen had commented about it a few times on her show, once even giving some to the audience, i just HAD to try it), but then we kept walking. didn't eat it 'til we got to Times Square. crazy. and what, pray tell, was the reason for said craziness???? me and my 'psychological urge' to go to a place called Amy's Bread in Hell's Kitchen!! i'd heard (from Jeanine's friend Angie who'd lived there) that they had her favorite cake. and i, being the CAKE FAN that i am, had this destination high on my list of things to do in NYC...! i could tell that it was a 'definite distance' to get there, but we had at least a couple of hours to kill. and hey, we had walked a lot more on the trek in July, so "we could totally do this", i thought. well, it went from enjoying the sights along the way and chit-chatting...to Karyn saying multiple times, "this cake better be worth it, April!" and making a beeline for the shop...to successfully procuring the cake (but had to wait to eat it 'cause we were due at Times Square to meet Andy and then head home, plus i wanted to be able to really enjoy it)...to trudging/hobbling our way to Times Square in silence, basically. what an adventure!!!

we walked almost all the way around (of course...!) the outside of Lincoln Center before getting "in" it...i thought the outside of this building was worth taking a picture of, especially the grand chandelier inside (none of our photos turned out well enough to do the view justice)...i believe (actually, i CAN'T believe i don't remember) this is the Metropolitan Opera; someone, please correct me if i'm wrong...! (photo taken by K with her camera)
we then made our way down 9th (or Columbus Ave), and i spotted Columbus Circle the next main block over, and i excitedly told Karyn, "oh! let's go over there; i've wanted to see it!" so, we detoured to check it out. it was cool to see, especially at night with all the vehicle lights 'doing' the circle and the tree lights. i really like how this photo turned out...
once at Columbus Circle, i spied the Time Warner Center and excitedly told Karyn, "oh! that's where Ellen did her show for a week a couple(?) of seasons ago!" and these star-esque chandeliers lured us inside... the colors would change in time to Christmas music. so COOL!!!
