hats & another psychological urge

Karyn spent a fair amount of time looking for a hat. Andy bought a new hat & scarf on Canal Street. i'm not really a hat-wearer, but after stopping at yet another street vendor's table, i thought i'd try some on just to see how they looked. (and besides, the movement helped me to feel warmer than if i was just standing there.) :) Karyn and Andy raved about the very last hat i tried on. i liked how it looked too. and (can you believe it?!) it i felt warmer with it on. so, i let myself be talked into buying a hat. (guesses for how much it cost me, anyone??)

turned out that Karyn most liked the same hat i'd picked out for herself. she hesitated buying it at first--didn't want to be goofy 'twin' tourists--but, fashion & fit beat out what others might have thought, or might ever think, if we wear them at the same time again... ;-)

i can't help but chuckle to myself when i look at this (and the next) photo... what's so amusing, you ask?? thinking about how DEAD-SET i was on going to see Washington Square, and how SO DONE Andy & Karyn were by that point of the night. especially Andy. :) she was practically biting her tongue off, i think. and, to add to all the "FUN", it was quite blustery again and with the wind-chill, i can practically guarantee you that it was 25!!! there wasn't a lot to look at along the streets we walked from the subway to the square, and we each felt a little nervous being 3 gals traversing the more-barren streets of the city. and, at one point, we were a little lost, so i had to stop someone (she was nice & willing to help) to make sure we were headed in the right direction. sure, i felt bad that i was dragging them along at 10 o' clock-ish at night to see something they could care less about, but not bad enough to change my crazed mind... :)

one of my top three favorite movies of all time is When Harry Met Sally. (and i like A LOT of movies.) i've only seen the TV-version of it. at any rate, to be at this location from the beginning of the movie was--yep, you guessed it--so cool!!! :) ......perhaps needless to say, we didn't linger long. we hauled our butts as fast as our sore feet & legs could carry them back to the subway to get out of the ridiculous cold and drive back to crash at Andi's...!

P.S. i have to share that i played Guitar Hero on Andy's Wii for the very first time ever that night. i was a bit hesitant at first to try it, but Karyn & Andy told me i had to, so i said OK. (and noooo, if they told me i had to jump off a cliff, i wouldn't have said OK...!!!) ;-) Karyn actually took some pictures with my camera, but i look awful in them, so i'm not posting a one. i did poorly most of the rounds i played, but it was so much fun!! i could see how people could get addicted to it. after Guitar Hero, we played Wii Sports. Karyn was best at baseball, i was best at tennis (but, of course ;-)) and Andy was best at bowling (i didn't dare play her). i had to get the hang of the wand (i'd never played on a Wii before), and once i did, i had a BLAST! if we had extra money lying around (if we did, we wouldn't be in the financial predicament we're in now--ha), i would go right out and buy a Wii and get Wii Sports (as well as that new EA Active program; i saw it demo-ed on Ellen, and i WANT IT); not only was it loads of fun, it was also a decent workout! anyway, yet another adventure on my adventure...... :) and my boys were genuinely surprised and pleased to learn that i'd played the Wii; i felt like such a "hip" mom after i told them...
