our trip to Cali...

It's been a while since I lasted posted, but that's because I was busy with life, pre-trip prep, having my birthday and then we were in San Jose for eight days. Plus, I always seem to get the "post-trip blues" so it takes me some time before I feel up to sharing details--might sound odd, but I bet some of you can relate. :) ...Anyway, we had a great time! The weather was ESPECIALLY enjoyable since we'd been snowed on AGAIN on the 9th (I was going to post pictures but didn't take the time) as well as a light dusting on my b-day...and it was still chilly when we left (it snowed while we were gone too). We went camping at the beach, to a children's museum & a park with a carousel, we went bowling, to the San Francisco Zoo and we hung out with Peter's friend (and his wife, 5 year old son and 5 month old daughter) at the park and their home. Since I took a plethora of pics, I'm going to link you to the web album instead of posting all seventy-some-odd...a lot, I know, but definitely worth viewing--and keep in mind I started with 291 photos! :) I explained some of them, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask! :) ...Earlier tonight, I asked the boys what their favorite parts of our week in CA were and Ethan came up with his first: going to the beach and seeing Dave (feel special--hee, hee!) & Max. Brandon had to deliberate for a few minutes and after I told him to be specific instead of just saying "everything", he settled on camping at the beach and making new friends (they played with the boys that were in the campsite next to us at our two sites as well as down on the beach). I particularly liked our time at the zoo; it was exciting to see so many animals so active--I hardly had to zoom in on the grizzly bears; they were just on the other side of a plexi-glass wall. And of course I enjoyed a date to the movies with Peter, courtesy of my in-laws...though I do wish we'd seen another movie. :) (Had to say that just for you, Peter!) Overall, it was a terrific time...I am grateful for the chance to spend time with family and to do some fun activities; love the change of pace (well, most parts) that a trip brings!! :) Now, I'll just have to start planning the next trip/vacation...! (Oh, by the way, when I asked Peter what his favorite part was, he said being with me (way to score points, babe!) and being in San Jose.)

One more thing--I thought it would be neat to post a pic of Peter & Dave (who first met in Kindergarten) from our trip right next to one from days of yore of the pair (they're probably around 10 in that photo)... :) Sorry about the reflection in Peter's glasses...

Wow! what a post! The picture in the link were really fun. I don't feel bad that Peter, Katie and Jeff got to have a pic together, I replaced Peter in lots of pics before. The picture at the bottom with dave is really fun. I don't really have any friends from Kindergarten I think it is awesome that they have stayed friends for so long.

And Peter and I look exactly the same! I think that photo was around 3rd grade, so you're right - we would have been about 9/10. For those of you into trivia:
* I think that photo was taken on Pier 39 in San Francisco.
* I have a mouth full of braces you can't see in the photo.
* I think my hat was a Garfield hat which said something witty like "I hate Mondays".

Hartung Family - It was SO great hanging out with you. Thanks for the blog shout out and for coming to hang out in our corner of San Jose.
Other Hartung blog readers - Sorry we didn't get a chance to see you. Hope you're all doing well.

Hey April! Glad you're back and that you had a great trip! We go to CA every year, and just love it! Although I've never camped there...we have in-laws to stay with, and well, I'm more of an "indoor girl"...I'll take a look at your pics!

I loved the link to the pictures. Those were fun. Great animal shots. It was fun to see the current picture of Peter and Dave. Seems like yesterday they were tormenting Brad and Jeff!

The house is sure loney without everyone here.

We miss you all!
