Brandon had his first practice on January 8th. And though he likes watching basketball with Peter as well as "playing" with Ethan or his cousin Tyler (in the bedroom with a Fisher-Price hoop that peaks at six feet), this is his first experience playing with real basketball hoops and real basketballs (we have a couple, but the mini ones work better on the hoop we have) on a real team with the real rules. :) Fortunately (...or unfortunately??) most of his team has been in the same boat. I went with him to that first practice and reminisced a bit about my days on Jackson Middle School's girl's team. :) (His coach has his team do ladders--for the life of me I can't remember what my coach called them; it wasn't that! Do you remember, Michael???) Brandon's first game was January 12th. And as my cousin Liz predicted on her blog for her 6 1/2 year old's first game, B's game was a comical experience!! :) I don't have enough fingers and toes to count on to tell y'all how many times the refs had to call double-dribble or travel! Anyway, we can tell that Brandon has learned & improved much already and the season isn't over yet. And he's having fun, which is most important...right? :) (In case you didn't know, I'm a very competitive person. Blame it on the fact that I grew up with my brother not quite a year younger than me--I don't know. At any rate, I have that edge to me. Combine that with my 'motherly protective instinct' and you've got me havin' a difficult time sitting (quietly during the negative, mildly during the positive) through most of the boys' sporting events! For whatever reason, I've had a more challenging time with B's b-ball games, so I've only been to a couple. (Plus they're on Saturday mornings--a couple really early--and I like to sleep in.) :) ANYWAYS, here are some pics that Peter took on Jan. 26th.
They're action shots, so bear with the quality...

He's dribbling--yay!! Too much playin' on carpet in the bedroom meant a lot of progress to be had in the dribbling department!
About to pass the ball...
Peter liked this shot, so I included it. Over his left shoulder is his coach, who also happened to coach Ethan's soccer team this past fall...and who also happens to be an avid Ute fan; I'm surprised Peter's OK with his sons being coached by him--ha! :)

cool pics! i think what you're thinking of is 'suicides' - running from the baseline to the free-throw line and back, then to half-court and back, then to the opposite baseline and back. we had to run those when we weren't playing as hard as we could in practice. then the person who came in last place had to run another one by himself. i hope they're not doing that with kids brandon's age!
