the conquering of the snaggle-tooth

Finally!!!! Ethan's tooth that's been snaggly for the past five months is out of his mouth!! :) That thing just wouldn't let go. It was at quite the horizontal angle before I pulled it out on May 28th. The permanent tooth was already even starting to poke out of his gum. As I yanked it out (and it took a couple of tries because Ethan was resisting my efforts--flailing a bit, clamping his jaw shut, pulling my hands away--my mom even tried helping me hold him still) I heard a popping noise that sorta surprised me...who would've thought that the snaggle-tooth was still so connected?!? He bled more from that tooth-pulling than when I pulled out his other front tooth. It's been getting loose but I had no idea how loose it was since the snaggly one was kinda in the way and definitely more of our focus. It came right out for me. Ethan wasn't too happy with me (I had told him that he needed to let me wiggle & maybe try to pull his teeth or he couldn't go ride his bike--ah, bribery!) but he got over it fairly quickly. He told me a time or two that I'm not his dentist. :) I told him I wouldn't have pulled them out if they weren't ready to come out. He said it hurt for longer than I said it would. I felt bad for 'pouncing' on him to attack his teeth, so I offered that he could get a treat. He said, "or a toy." I'm hoping he forgets about it. :) I mean, I'm sure the tooth fairy will be generous since it's a double-give! (He wanted to show Peter his teeth this weekend and then we forgot to put them under his pillow last night.) He spent plenty of time checking out the gaping spaces in his mouth the rest of the day and the next in any reflective surface he could: the TV screen, the door knob, the digital picture frame screen, and of course, the mirrors. ...Anyways, now Ethan's sportin' a goofy grin. :) As he was getting in bed that night, he sang, "All I want for Christmas are my two front teeth"...they better had be in by then!! ......Oh, don't know if you can tell, but Ethan's eyes are a touch red from his crying and his hair is a little tousled from me trying to keep him still and his gum is bloody because I took this picture only a minute or two after I pulled them out...

Poor little guy. You took away the fun of getting to pull your own tooth! I kinda liked his crooked little smile. Just different like I think me and Ethan like to be.
